GIVE – Ohana International School fundraising event for TOHOKU

February 2016

This spring marks the fifth anniversary of the devastating March 11 earthquake and tsunami. While there has been progress in rebuilding the community most affected by the disaster in Tohoku, the overwhelming reality is that most of the survivors remain displaced, without the services and support needed to fully restart their lives.

“GIVE” – An event that gives back to the children of Tohoku

On March 10th, Ohana International School is hosting “GIVE”, a special event to raise funds and awareness in our humble attempt to bring aid – and hope – to Tohoku and its people. Ohana is an international pre-school located in Moto Azabu; we are committed to brightening the lives of children.

Our primary fundraising activities are dedicated to the survivors of Tohoku, with a focus on children, to fund social services and infrastructure improvements for the region. Specifically, the money we raise from our event will go toward “A Place to Grow”, a new center in Minamisanriku with the purpose of bringing programs, community and livelihood to the children in the region. Secondly, our funds will support the town of Koamikura in Ojikahanto, in the rebuilding a community center and shrine that was devastated in the disaster.

Our GIVE event on Thursday March 10th will include an exhibition of art work made by children from Minamisanriku
(Shelley, Kit Nagamura and four parents went up to Minamisanriku to host an art workshop and the paintings are from this workshop) which will be auctioned on the night; wine tasting hosted by Hotei wines, Ritsuko Matsumoto – marimba player, Japanese candy maker, cocktail food by Globe Caravan and a silent auction.
